Out of The Hat is a psychological fairytale that takes you on a journey into the twisted mind of a villain with the only help of your wits and your magic hat.

You play as Agatha, a little girl who finds herself lost in a mysterious forest after running away from a Circus where she was imprisoned by the villainous magician Quintus. As you try to find your way out, you will discover that the world you’re trapped in is actually inside Quintus’ magic hat, where he has hidden all of the traumas and fears of a long and unhappy life.

As you move deeper into this bizarre world, every challenge you overcome will help Quintus face his hidden memories in a journey of healing. Every time you see a memory being replayed, Quintus is forced to experience it again, so he will try and stop you with increasing vehemence.

My Role

My role in this project was game director, game designer and programmer.

I designed and prototyped the main mechanics, developed the player movement, some of the enemies’ behaviours and some shaders, and supervised the overall project.
